Depression and anxiety
Recent statistics show that 1 in 10 American are affected by depression at some point in their lives. Depression manifests itself in different ways -- sleeping all of the time or insomnia, lack of motivation, sadness, anger, and other symptoms. Approximately 18% of Americans experiences anxiety to the point of distress -- feelings of nervousness, excessive worry, and inability to stop worrying. Fortunately, therapy is effective in reducing these symptoms.
Traumatic events take many forms from being injured in some way, including emotionally and physically, to witnessing another being harmed. These events can cause changes in the nervous system which lead to distress and difficulty. Therapy can help reduce the distress associated with trauma and aid in making positive changes.
1 in 5 Americans experiences chronic pain. This daily struggle leads many to feelings of sadness about the changes that this experience has brought to their lives, including feelings of being unable to provide for their family or of not having any control in the situation. Cognitive Behavior Therapy has been shown to be effective in getting those experiencing chronic pain back to a more healthy and active lifestyle.
Whether a couple is just starting a relationship or have been together for decades, miscommunication, misunderstandings, and unmet needs can pull two people who love each other apart. Our therapists aid couples in understanding how their backgrounds, communication styles, and beliefs can contribute to the conflict and how to resolve it.
While many people associate grief with the loss of a loved one, symptoms can manifest due to any loss, including loss or change of job, the ending of a relationship, moving to a new area, a loved one experiencing an illness, and other major life changes. Grief is a process that involves many aspects including anger and sadness, and our therapists can guide and support during this difficult time.
Many different personalities, ways of doing things, and styles of communication can sometimes create conflict in a family whether it is a traditional family, a single parent family, or a blended family. Therapy aids those living together to resolve conflicts effectively, communicate clearly, and identify the behaviors which contribute to loss of peace at home.
